We've always felt that an important part of our responsibility as an employer is to be involved in the community. As our company has grown, we have tried to give something back to the communities that our employees call home. We feel so strongly about our commitment to community service, that we have dedicated a full time position to fielding the hundreds of requests we receive for in-kind services and monetary donations.
Why? Well according to our President, Dan Siracusa, "Why not? I like to get involved with programs that impact kids, because I think we should get them while they're young. We get calls all the time and are involved in various activities. There's something going on every day. I've always done the volunteer work. Looking at the needs of society, I always feel like I can do more."
Local Programs
Services are provided as well to local agencies such as Foodshare Commission of Greater Hartford, Boy Scouts of America, the Children's Home of Cromwell, Neighborhood Housing Services of New Britain, World-Wide Lighthouse Missions, Share Our Strength, and We Are The Children.
Button Up Connecticut
In 1993, Dan created the Button-Up Connecticut coat drive, organized with United Way of the Capital Area and Urban League of Greater Hartford. Siracusa Moving & Storage assists, free of charge, in the collection, storage, and distribution of the donated coats. Disaster Services
In addition, Siracusa Moving & Storage has transported food and other necessities to victims in Florida after Hurricane Andrew, to flood victims in Iowa, to Waco, Texas through the Adopt-A-School program and to Third World countries.
Special Olympics World Games
In 1995, Dan served as a commissioner for the Special Olympics World Games, and Siracusa Moving & Storage became the Games' logistics center. Commenting on the appointment, Dan stated, "I am committed to devoting the majority of my time and efforts to create, manage and document a logistics and transportation framework that will serve as a future model for this and other large events."
